RHODODENDRON FRAGRANTISSIMUM PROPAGATION

This straggly looking plant, for most of the year, just sits there doing nothing and not looking particularly good.

However, for a couple of weeks in spring it blooms and fills the conservatory, and indeed all the house, with its heady scent.

I have got to like it so much over the past 6/7 years that now I would like to propagate it.

Does anyone have experience of this? Would rooting the soft shoots -present now ---or layering be best?

I'm afraid its either layering or saddle grafting on to R. ponticum rootstock. You would need specialist equipment to attemt cuttings and they ,even then are all but impossible. Wink

Thank you for that advice --- might go for air layering as the branches are very brittle and upright.

Worth a try.
