Saving for Christmas!

Some may remember that for 2008, we decided to put £10 a week in a pot plus whatever we saved by buying BOGOFs and other offers whilst shopping.

We did this from January to November, putting whatever was in the pot into the Building Society at the end of every month.  When we came to do the Christmas shopping, we had very nearly £1000 in there (and didn't spend it all...)  Very Happy

So I can recommend this as a method of saving and we'll be doing it again this year!

Out of the housekeeping hubby gives me I put away into an awkward to get to Building Society account £50 per month, it didn't quite cover Christmas this year as it turned out to be an expensive one....

but.....

when my sisters husband was made redundant last year and it took him awhile to find another job the bank and he made up a budget and their housekeeping budget was £50 per week Shocked I can't imagine surviving on this but have decided to make a concerted effort to bring my weekly spend down 'considerably'. According to my sister she wrote weekly menus including breakfasts, lunch, dinners treats and everything and shopped according to this. So that is what I am going to do and put away into a saving account anything left over.
I have to start somewhere  Very Happy
