ScabbardWe've been making friends with a wee ewe that got left behind when the last lot went away last year. She grazes at the fence beside the ponies, wanders around the yard and actually stood close enough for Coco to touch yesterday. She likes porridge and mixed salad leaves! She is very scabby looking, hence the name.
Picture quality not grand, oh yes, and Coco is going to try and take her with us when we move....................

aww, thats how are local farmer got his sheep, two got left behind and then had lambs and so it continued. He uses them to keep the equestrian land good!

That is Coco's argument for catching her.

Her name is not Scabbard... that is ridiculous... isn't that something to do with swords??
greenlady called her Scabbers, mum calls her scabbard, poor thing. Her name is Amber... her eyes are a beautiful amber colour... and she is covered in burrs, so it should actually be Amburr I'll get better pics tomorrow and maybe somebody could tell me what breed of sheep she is? I've had a look on the net but can't find anything matching.

looks a bit like a suffolk to me
good carcase for meat and wool not that you would be looking in that direcdtion of course
havy thing and hard to turn for shearing
i think you should take her with you
after all, what is one more when you have so many?
she would also help with the land management for the horses of course
Lizzie

Yup, she looks a bit Suffolky to me too, although maybe a wee bit small for that? Does she have black legs - it's difficult to tell on that photo.
Of course you should take her with you

We'll be able to take a better photo now, she's eating out of Coco's hand and nuzzling at her jacket.

'sheep whisperer'?

Lizzie

There's no escape now Kathy....

Have you got a movement licence sorted out, and the holding numbers, and flock numbers?
Libby

Becki
She's serious You need licences for everything
Kathy
Ah, right, so we can't just rustle her then!
Seriously, we would love to sort out having her but I'm afraid the logisitics just wouldn't work. Plus, our new landlord is a farmer and we have permission for the ponies, never mentioned anything about sheep! We'll leave it the hands of fate and see what happens.
Lizzie
I wonder what would happen if she 'accidentally' followed you....

Scabbers/scabbard/amber has rejoined a flock and has turned into a normal sheep again, I think she is very happy! I'm glad, we couldn't take her with us and she would be on her own, which is a sad thing for a sheep really, so she's moved in with the sheep that are about to lamb and hasn't been back to the horses since.
Lizzie
Good news for Amber - I'm sure she'll be happier being a sheep than a horse
Libby
Thats good news saves all the fiffing and faffing of paper work!
Kathy
It's funny how she never joined any of the other flocks, the ones destined for meat, it's like she knew she'd have a longer life with these.

all's well that ends well then
if coco is a good sheep whisperer i could do with her here, my balwens are definitely now playing the game.....
Becki
She can come and get the foal at the same time then........
Kathy
Oh for heavens sake, now Becki's started as well.................
