shropshire apple chutneyagain as requested by bovey, i made this on sunday
4 and 1/2 lbs apples
2 lb soft brown sugar
1 1/2 lb onions
2 pts malt vindgar
1 1/2 lbs sultanas or raisins
1 oz ground ginger
1/2 oz garlic
1 oz mustard seed
1/4 oz cayenne peppe
cut apples in small pieces and put in a large pan with sugar, onions and vinegar
bring to boiling point and simmer until pulpy
add all other ingredients and simmer 10 minutes or until thick
bottle and cover, leave till cold
cover with vinegar proof lids. store for 3 months before using

Thanks Nanny, will give this a whirl - especially as it uses large quantitites of apples - can't be doing with these apple chutney recipes that say "take 8 oz apple" . . .

don't like sweating into my food personally but feel free to bring your own if so you chooses
i like a chutney that i can put on a cheddar cheese sandwich and live to tell the tale and this one is very good on a slab of home made bread, your own butter and some really sharp cheddar

Sounds great. Spice is nice though, even on cheddar?
