Smoked quail eggs (pickled) (Somerset lad)somerset ladModerator Joined: 18 Feb 2006 Posts: 249 Location: Taunton som Posted: 06 Jun 2006 08:34 pm Post subject: Smoked quail eggs, ( pickled) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I saw some smoked, pickled quail eggs in our farm shop at £2.75 for a jar containing 10 eggs. Now i pickle some of my quail eggs so i got out my little hot smoker and hey presto, i could make a mint, but i enjoy eating them and sharing them with people that drop in. _________________ grow it catch it eat it. On another note, I felt so mean when I ate quail, they're so lovely... But I don't think I'd keep quails just for the eggs, that's just so much effort for so little food! _________________ Status of our house: No heating, no bathroom, no kitchen. More seriously, it could be that the encouragement to continually lay does deplete their strength. I don't give my quail artificial light so i get eggs .1 per hen every day, (no misses) from early April until late October. Nice. But they do go on to lay for the second year on on after that.  so worth keeping in my opinion, then you have the cockbirds for meat.
