splitting rhubarb

I've dug a trench round it, then tried to get my fork under it to lift it, but I just can't.

it's a huge crown - over a foot in diameter and we'e got heavy clay soil.

Then I tried to cut it by shoving my spade straight through it, but it wouldn't go.

So now I have a moat round my island fort of rhubarb!

What else can I (or T) try?

Stick with the spade down the middle, Aqui, and just keep at it. Wink

is it really that simple? i think it might be a job for t - i just haven't got the strength (or at least i didn't after digging the compost anyway!)

I remember an old gardener telling me Rhubarb does really well if split in this way in really frosty conditions.
