Spring Dishcloth Knit

Knitted dishclothes can be so simple and more often than not involve just a knit stitch and a purl stitch.
I wondered if anyone would like to join in a dishcloth knit or swap? Even Lloyd could join in with this, and don't say men don't knit Lloyd as my father was a great knitter!!
I thought this would be a cheap and cheerful idea for January 2009.

What do you think?
TheGirlsMum

I can do hat one!
Jacky

I can knit dishcloths and would join in   Very Happy

Aggie, double knit cotton works well, most wool shops sell it. You'll probably get some at that wool shop in Glenrothes.  Smile

I think Lloyd is trying to find a good excuse for buying the trap and then holding a claypigeon shooting party!!

I have hardly touched my knitting so far this winter so wouldn't want to inflict my efforts on anyone.  But if there is a pattern to follow I will have a go and post a piccie of the result....

I'll do one.

I always use a dish cloth knit along site, that adds about 10 rows a day, and you do it over a week.
Aqui

Sorry - I forgot to say.

Yes - I'm sure I can manage one or two!

As long as I don't have to do any shooting! lol

It is a yahoo group, and you just join free then you get sent the days knitting by email, or you can view online.

All patterns are in the archive too.
Libby

Thanks Alison, I have signed up for that and will let you know whats what or even post the pattern on here if you would like  Very Happy
Libby

Blimey don't sign up for all the emails otherwise it bursts your inbox!  Laughing

Right so how are we going with this? Do peeps want me to post a pattern on here in stages or do you all want to find one and do it yourself?
Lizzie

Maybe we could all follow the same pattern and see how each one turns out?  Also, this would help those amongst us who might need a bit of assistance!

But really I'm up for anything  Laughing

What colour yarn did you buy Libby?

While typing that bit the pattern just printed off   Very Happy
Jacky

Are we swapping or keeping them for ourselves?
Libby

Boring cream...................................

I have been on Ebay  Embarassed  Laughing  Laughing  and bought a very pretty lilac colour Very Happy  Very Happy  Very Happy

I think everyone is knitting for themselves
Kathy

Libby, you never..........I'll bet you didn't really need more wool!  Laughing

I'll go for the second option, just finishing off a much belated present then I'll get started.  Smile
browneyes

im in and iv already got some white cotton, but im going to ask the same ? as Jacky are we swopping or keeping them for our selfs?
Libby

I really don't mind if we swop, but I thought as some potties where probably going to make this a first attempt at knitting that they might be happier to join in if we didn't swop but am happy to do both?

Did that make any sense?  Confused  Laughing
Cabbagepatch

Ok, I'm sure I could manage that first pattern but what wool and needle size is required?
Libby

probably 4 or 5mm needles and any cotton yarn should do.
Lizzie

I've made the second one but forgot to take photos and it's now in use (and a splendid purply pink colour).

I can't work out what the picture is though.... Embarassed

I might do another one and try and remember to take pictures this time... Rolling Eyes
Libby

My pretty wool arrived today so hopefully later I can crack on. I will make both I think  Very Happy
Libby

This is what I did yesterday afternoon

do you want to know what the pic is supposed to be? It looked really clear on the pattern Sad  but not so clear on the dishcloth  Confused
Jacky

It's looking good Libby but I can't work out what it is ... I have gone from a pram to a shopping trolly, but the bottom lines look like arrows   Rolling Eyes

I am going to look a right numpty when you tell, arn't I   Laughing   Laughing
Lizzie

OH thought it looked like an old-fashioned space invader game...

Are those wooden needles Libby?
Libby

They are bamboo ones  Very Happy  I got a bargain buy a couple of years ago for a whole set off Ebay, and I love them to pieces  Very Happy

and as for the pattern...............................

its supposed to be sunshine and showers, I thought rather appropriate for our coming spring Laughing  but why the cloud is smiling I have no idea  Laughing
Lizzie

Ahhhh - that makes sense!

I did wonder whether the top left hand bit was a sun, but I couldn't work out the rest!

I'll try and remember to take a photo of mine tonight...
TheGirlsMum

Ive done some intials for presents so far C, B and J but I will try this one for me but not until Ive finished the squares I've got to do for great nephew's blanket so give me a week or so.
Kathy

Haven't started yet, or looked the wool out......................... Embarassed
Libby

Finished both  Very Happy

I may knit a few more as pressies, I have a few more patterns if any one wants to do something different  Very Happy
Lizzie

Yes please Libby (although I've still to do the moss-stitch one....)

I'm supposed to be knitting a jumper for step-daughter but I'm lacking inspiration and she's no help:

me: 'what sort of jumper would you like dear?'
her: 'a warm one'

Rolling Eyes
Libby

Here we are Garterlac I've done this and it looks good in variagated colours.

I've used alot of this ladies patterns as well  http://home.earthlink.net/~oscarsdotter/id2.html
Kathy

Libby, slow down, I haven't even looked out my wool yet.  Embarassed
Lizzie

Ooh now that looks good - I have a jumper pattern in that sort of stitch and I just could not get my head around it - maybe a dishcloth would get me in the swing of it.
Aqui

Hang on a minute.. i've lost track. what's going on?

libby - i thought it looked like an old lady and a giraffe pushing a pram/shopping trolley from opposite ends!
Libby

Sorry  Embarassed  Rolling Eyes  the dishcloth knit along is still the two patterns that I typed out and thats really as much as you have to do.

If and I do mean IF you want to do more I have put the links above.

Aqui, I'm quite disappointed in the pattern, in the pic I saw of it, which of course I can't find now, it looked very obviously like sunshine and showers, now it could be anything  Very Happy  Rolling Eyes
redwillowrose

I`m going to get the wool today
Libby

Goodie, goodie.

I must admit since I started knitting dishclothes I wouldn't be without one, I am quite brutal with mine and they get bleached  more or less on a daily basis, I have never had one fall to pieces, (yet) they just get a disgusting colour and then go on the compost heap. Very Happy
Kathy

I've started mine, found some craft cotton in my stash, photos later, got to take E to a party.  Smile
redwillowrose

I did this yesterday evening, its supposed  to be double knit cotton, but it doesn`t seem very thick

Libby

OOoooo thats pretty RWR  Very Happy
redwillowrose

Thanks Libby, and it was so quick to knit ! I`m going to make lots more now, this was the first one I`ve made, but I`m going to try to get cheaper cotton, as this cost £2.60 for a 50grm ball !
Kathy

Lovely RWR, nice pattern.
Try getting craft cotton, it's cheaper, I think I paid 99p for 50 grms.  Smile
Libby

definately loads better than a 'J-cloth'  Very Happy  Laughing
Libby

so how are we doing in the knitting department? I  know Kathy's still knitting, anyone else started, in the middle or finished?? Very Happy

It makes really good insulation, add it to my fabric stash and I keep our heating bills right down   Laughing   Laughing

anyway, it's good for times like now, when every penny counts and I no longer wish to spend money apart from food and pet food shopping, as I am more than just a bit worried about my job.   Confused

and I found a facecloth pattern, which is quite good as my flannel is abit old  Very Happy
Kathy

Shocked  Shocked Libby, stop it, I've got stuck with mine! Love that top pattern, good enough to grace a table never mind dishcloths!
Libby

I must admit I thought they would make excellent placemats too. Quite tempted to make a few sets in different colours, then they can just be lobbed in the washing machine, then when they get old a scrawny put on the compost  Very Happy
Cabbagepatch

They are lovely, dare I ask if the pattern is difficlt to follow for a novice?
Libby

if you can knit and purl, put yarn round needle (YO) and pass the slip stitch over (PSSO) literally pass the stitch that was slipped from left needle to right needle,  over the stitch you've just knitted, you can do this pattern  Very Happy

what I could do is post a couple of rows of the pattern, you do it, if you get stuck we can sort you out, if you don't just let me know that you've done the rows and I will post the next set.
Jacky

I have knitted the pattern you placed up, I will load a picture up a bit later   Very Happy
Libby

anyone else done one yet?
Lizzie

Embarassed

I wanted to do the basket-weave effect one next, but I got distracted by daughter's jumper - I've nearly finished the body and still have the sleeves to go, but that cloth is on the list after that  Laughing
Cabbagepatch

I'm erm, building myself up to it...

8 rows to go.............................

Shocked  only 3 rows Laughing  Laughing  Laughing
Kathy

Finished!! I didn't go right to the end of the pattern, just knitted a couple of plain rows then cast off as it was quite large. These knitted dishcloths are great, last for months, then get moved on to mucky jobs, then to the compost heap! Smile
Libby

welll done Kathy, I love them too!!!
Lizzie

Strangely, I've just started a new dishcloth - it's just double moss stitch but having spent most of the weekend cleaning one thing or another, I find I'm in need of one or more new cloths!
