Star Wars Quilt

Okay, I know I'm meant to be doing that garden/cat quilt and I am working on it...still collecting scraps of fabric and I plan to make a start soon. but...

S will be having his birthday in April and he's been asking since I finished the last quilt if I'll make one for him. He's a HUGE star wars fan and we'll be decorating his bedroom soon. I'd like to make him a star wars quilt for his birthday present from me.

So, any ideas? I did think of getting Penny/Squat Orange (Downsizer) to print some star wars pictures onto fabric squares. But I'm worried that with time, wash and wear they'll start to flake. I want this quilt to last forever! That's still an option, but I want to consider all ideas and options first before I decide how to tackle this project. Does anyone have any thoughts, suggestions, links and anything else that might prove helpful?

Can you not buy fabric from a shop with Star Wars characters on it?

I was suprised when I visited just a small shop in a small town near me that they had all sorts of printed themes.

For example I got Barbie doll material with all sorts of different Barbie doll figures and accessories on it

That's all I can suggest - unless you make a starship enterprise out of squares, and then add squares around it with star shapes etc?

OK so I am not a trekkie or whatever - but I do try and be helpful - besides Leonie is great at lateral thinking - she'll know what I mean Rolling Eyes

CP Barbie for me - on no - not a pink person. My grandaughter's Christmas presentl she is Barbie 'mad'. Apron and bag - she was over the moon about it! Wore it when she used her Creativity set I bought her and is going to use the bag for her ballet 'gear'. Might make her another on in a different pattern.

Or Barbie pencil case, purse - got lots left!

How big is this quilt to be? If you could do something fairly intricate, you could find pixel pictures of tie fighters or whatever, something 100x100 pixels would have enough definition to look good, but you would only need to use little pieces of cloth for the image itself, and then just get some generalized starry background type bits which can be done in larger squares to fill it in?

I guess do a google image search with only "small" results, though I don't think anything less than about 80x80 would be much use.
