What a pretty pony, I love his white socks.
Who is that in the photo looking at him, is it you Becki?
|
alison
|
Well it isn't me!

Jellycat

I know nothing about horses and ponies (it must be 35 years since I last rode....), but Storm's very pretty

Who did I go with then?

What a poppet. I have a soft spot for chestnuts (as Fahly is!) How old is he Becki? You said something about him "growing with the children" so that sounds like he is still a youngster. Hope he gets lots of ticks when you have him vetted anyway.
|
Becki

He's 8 BB, as in he will be able to go to gymkhana and stuff.

Some random woman you picked up probably

That's a good age - old enough to have seen and done stuff and young enough not to have the legs to go with it! He's got such a pretty head. What is his breeding? Looks to have some Welsh there, and perhaps a dash of Arab a way back. Many of the pony breeds do (New Forest ponies have ALL sorts in their ancestry - Arabs, TBs, Hackneys, even Clydesdales turned out on the Forest back in Victorian times!)
Have you decided to definitely have him then?
|
Becki
|
I suspected Welsh somewhere, because of the shape of his head. If it goes well tomorrow, we will have him.

How did it go becki?
He's a lovely looking boy, very pretty...or should I say handsome so he doesn't take offense?........
|
Becki
|
It went fine thanks coco. We have bought him, we are fetching him on friday. He was a bit frisky when they rode him, but he is fairly un schooled, and isn't used to 5 kids getting on and off him and fussing, running shouting etc They all went in his stable at the same time, and although he didn't look best pleased, he just stood there. He has a lovely nature and looks kind. Kids are beside themselves

Great news!... you'll have to get another one for yourself now
unless you already have and I've missed that thread aswell
|
Becki
|
No, not yet, I'm working on it though
|
Bovey Belle

Where will you be keeping him Becki? I hope he soon settles in. I am sure your children will really enjoy him - life will certainly never be the same again and Christmas shopping this year will probably involve a lengthy trip to the saddlers' for bits and bobs to go under the tree!
I'm sure when he comes into work, he will start to work off some of that extra energy. Has he not been ridden regularly recently? In the photos he didn't look very fit (mine all look like they've worked out at a gym as their field is on a hillside!!!) Oh, and how big is he? 13hhish?
|
Becki
|
He hasn't been ridden regulaly, thats why he was for sale, certainly not schooled, using different muscles etc.
He is being kept at Alison's, It's the nearest I've ever had a pony I always said when I first met her that it was a crime not to have horses with that much land and stables
H'e 13hh TB/Arab/Welshy type.

It's lovely to have them close. I can look out of the kitchen window at Fahly in his stable. When he notices I'm there, he looks very intently at me and I can pick up the thought "Apples . . ."!!!
Your kids will be very reluctant to go to school on Friday and VERY glad to get home and meet Storm.

I am over the moon Storm has been settling in well, he has spent 2 days next door with other horses around him, so he can get used to the people and horses and noises over there. He has been doing really well.
When E had her lesson on one of their ponies today her teacher got on Storm and took the lesson on him, to see what he was like in the school.
He was fine so she said they should have a little try on him. He has done very little schooling. Ali's DD got on first, she is more confident than my 2, having spent all summer riding different ponies around the place. She did really well, getting him past the gate, keeping him on the track, and getting a nice trot.
E was next and her ride went much the same, a tractor pulled out and he didn't flinch.
M got on next (she's nearly 7) and she is a tough little cookie and made him do what she wanted, getting him past the gate and not panicking when he did a tiny rear. I am very proud of them all, he hasn't been here very long at all and did extremely well.
On top of that everyone has been saying what a fantastic little man we have and what a bargain!!!

I'm glad that everything is going OK

Oh that's brilliant Becki, I'm so pleased it's working out. Can't wait to see more photos of him getting ridden.

It sounds like he is settling in well. I hope he is a great success. How old are your daughters Becki? Oh, and how did your lesson go the other day? Have you got a favourite horse there now?
|
Becki
|
My daughters are just 9 and nearly 7.
My lesson went well, I was stressed because I'd just found out my bank card had been cloned, and she is a sensitive soul, but it still went well. I love riding her in lessons, she is not used for customers on hacks, but I have another favourite for that. It's easier for me here because I know they won't sell either of them

Great news Becki. He sounds like a star!

Storm is fine!
He had the dentist last week, and has a wolf tooth removed, and was on riding rest while his mouth calmed down.
He will be ridden again tomorrow.
Apart from that the stables have been keeping an eye on him, as I have been away for a few days too.
He was wet when we got back this morning, so I bought him in, we dried him off and put his fleece on. His rug is drying in front of the aga!
|
Bovey Belle
|
Just as I predicted then!!! Fahly's rug was in drying last night too, but it has cleared up here this afternoon so I was able to put his in the barn tonight, dry.
Fahly had wolf teeth removed when I first got him too - made quite a difference to how he accepted the bit - he wasn't happy with a contact before that. Glad to hear that Storm is settling in well.
|
nanny
|
wold teeth seem to be a problem here as well
branston was very reluctant to take the bit till we sorted out his wolf teeth
clamped his little jaws and said no chance but since he had his wolf teeth out, he has taken the bit a lot better
now all we need is to get him to take a rider without bucking....shouldn't take all that long
|
Becki
|
I did say I was going away.......
I will take some pics tomorrow, the girls are going to ride him in the morning, I have to take Mark to the hospital in the afternoon, so it will be over to Ali's DD to ride him then
