Strange Day :)

I did'nt know where to post this...

Basically today we had a MAJOR hopefully life changeing find!
As will explain below  Very Happy but firstly everyone rembers my post on the Robin at Christmas visiting us in our home?

Today I felt something was "afoot" after a discussion last night with Richie about his idea to Forge his own Knives and things and selling them obviously to raise cash as we are both literally skint.
We had a major find today in Riches words below & pictures then I'll explain about the Robin...

I have always had a yearning to make my own custom knives and been looking at how to build a cheap forge
Well today on a trip into swansea by chance i spotted a small antique shop up a side street in one of the quiter areas on the outskirts ,we decided to have a mooch in the window and when we strolled up we noticed that they mostly did renevated cast iron fire places ,but then we spotteg the gates opening into the yard next door we looked in and saw this !!!!!!!!

Hand operated antique forge i was flying we went in and then an elderley chap appeared from no where and greeted us and starting chatting he showed us around lots of old cast iron ware and fire places and old country machinery that he was renovating and selling on he seemed delighted that we had recognised it as a forge and said it had been his possesion for about thirty years and had only just decided to put it on display the yard was a mish mash of fire grates and cast kitchen ranges chimney pots, tiles and old paraphernalia
Jen spotted an old wooden horse yoke with the metal work still attached she wants to buy it and renovate ,well to be honest we were like two kids in a sweetshop ,he showed us around and produced an antique ransomes hand operated lawn edger with the original paint still on it we were gob smacked and like I said our eyes were every where
When we mentioned we were looking for a forge to actually use he was very interested and told us that he thinks it was exmilitary and still inperfect working order Then came the big question "How much for the forge"  after showing me it still worked perfectly and saying he had put a new plate in the bottom of the fire box ,he looked at me pushed his flat cap back scratched his head and said "hows about £60 " I was expecting it to be a lot more and unaffordable
So it seems me and jen are the proud owners of an antique leather bellows operated forge I was so excited I forgot to ask if he had any other related equipment tongs hammers etc It seems he has a large storage area elsewhere so we will be picking it up the weekend and I,m looking forward to cleaning it up and renovating it as much as using it Very Happy

Anyway on to the Robin "Omen"  Laughing we arrived home this afternoon stunned quite honistly of our find to start a Buisness hopefully!
In Richies Welsh Family "Robins" are harbingers of ill will, but after our last visit from one he changed his mind!

Today as I say we got in excited about the Forge, Richie whent into the Bedroom and called me "Jen we have a visitor"
The Robin was back! apparently in some cultures the Robin signifies a messanger from the other side and good luck... and a visitor to let you know "the way" that is normally a relative.

HOW WEIRD IS THAT! here's the pictures below of our Messenger yet again!
He was totally calm and I even managed to hold him beifly myself he had no fear of us at all!!!!
I let Richie take charge as he was brought up with breeding and showing birds so I could take these few pictures Smile

I'm convinced by events  of today are a message in some way, maybe I'm being daft but I really dont think so  Very Happy

What a lovely story and not daft at all. I'll look forward to hearing how you get on with the forge, that place sounds wonderful. Very rare to get places like that nowadays and I can just imagine the chap pushing back his cap, pondering, then asking for £60. Well done.  Very Happy  Very Happy

I just couldn,t believe it when i saw it and the old gentlemans attitude when we spoke on the deal was awesome and then the robin when we got back home it has been a real weird day ,the robin sat so calm in my hand it was unbelievable As jen said i was brought up around small birds my dad used to breed and show birds and was also a judge on the circuit sadly he died young has been gone now almost thirty years was in his early forties I seriously wonder if the robin is "him" but there you go it was my dad that inspired my interest in animals and the world around me even though he inspired my interest in hunting but I feel there is a fine balance in that area (if you know what I mean) He taught me to abhor cruelty to animals but also taught me how to dispatch a rabbit clean and cook it (I hope you understand the point I,m trying to make)

I totally understand Richie....in fact we just talking about the same thing with a young friend of ours. He came by a couple of times over the weekend and Karl took him out with the rifle to get rabbits.  He did'nt actually shoot one....although he really wanted to....so Karl gave him one we had in the fridge and got him to skin and gut it. He then cooked it ,ate it and thoroughly enjoyed it. Though he did say he would probably have enjoyed it more had he done the deed......not so much from the killing point of view but for the respect.

A year ago when he moved just over the way from us, he used to ask his mum wether or not he liked certain foods!! Shocked  Shocked  But now we've got him eating allsorts.....much to the joy of his mother!!
We breed our own meat birds and I am adamant that they have a good life before they go. They free-range and have (Ihope) a good life.
I think it's lovely that you think the robin may be your father....and why not!!!!!! Cool  Cool

well I,ve finally made the decision to sell off my fire arms and go back to the air rifle ,hopefully they will provide enough money to purchase two air rifles as jeni is keen to go hunting as well
She already has her own fishing rods and we enjoy doing things together I don,t know how she will react when she shoots her first rabbit  but i do know she will turn it into a meal to remember  Very Happy
