How do you do it?

I have a hole in my salad at the moment. Actually had to buy some lettuces. The old salad has gone. the next stuff is only slightly pickable.

Also we had a lovely lot of beetroots, but now we've run out and the next ones are tiny.

How can I manage it better?

I have grown cut & come again type lettuces in tubs about 18" square I have three on the go & we havent bought any all "summer" & I dont think will be for the forseeable future... Well happy with that this year...
Salad bowl, little gem, lollo rosso were amiong those I've used...
I would suggest planting perhaps one a month from April for three months & the finish with the first one & replant etc I also only plant them about 1 &1/2 inches apart...

I'm getting the bits together at the mo for winter salads to grow in our greenhouse...
(don't forget I live further south than most)...

The easiest way for the rest of it is to plant shorter rows more often, most of the thinking is every fortnight or sow (oops Laughing

)...

I dont have a big garden to fill so I also sprout off most of my seeds first & as soon as there is the smalest bit of root showing plant it, using a gentle pair of tweezers (I do make sure I wash them before I give them back to Lady Sparhawk, well I do now anyway Wink

). It can be a bit fiddly when it comes to small ones like carrots but not a problem for beans & peas, less failures that way...

I'm not very good at this, all my stuff just seems to catch up with each other! Hens get the surplus greens and the rest goes into chutney! Laughing
