Take a minute......

...to realise how lucky you are. Karl was out skip-diving earlier (just up the road from us) when he met an old fella. They got chatting and Karl was a bit perturbed by his manner so invited him back home for a cuppa.
We made him a cup of tea and rolled him a couple of cigs, gave him a bite to eat  and got chatting to him. His name was Bert....but Robert on sundays! He had been out to buy the local paper and then could'nt quite remember where he lived. I phoned my friend's husband ( a policeman) and he came straight over.
To cut a long story short, this poor chap is 92 years old and has Altzheime'rs disease.
He has no family (his wife left him for a better model!) and apart from the neighbours who check on him every day (one of which has Parkinson's disease) and a social worker who visits about once every 3 months, he has no-one.
Imagine that......???
He is a lovely man.
Apparently he went wandering to the shops the other day and was attacked!!! I did notice a cut above his eye. I just feel totally stunned and ashamed of my own kind Crying or Very sad  Crying or Very sad  Crying or Very sad

Oh what a shame, another of the forgotten ones who get left to "community care." Thank goodness you were there, bless you both for spending time with him. I'm sure he appreciated it and I've no doubt you'll see him again. Smile

Well done you, I hope you feel really proud of yourselves.

My Dad used to go out for a walk every day, supposibly to the shops but never came home with anything, my mum just used to let out a huge sigh of relief when he did come home.....

Bless you for being so caring. 92 a good age, its such a shame when family are no longer there for you.

I do wish the members of the Potting Shed lived closer to one another I think we would make a lively and supportive community!!  Very Happy
