The grass is greener.............The hens decided to try the dogs bit and flew over the fence (I thought they couldn't do that.)
I never checked, let the dogs out and of course there was mayhem. I managed to get Rosie and Max to come and sit, Nora Batty shot in the back door and went straight into the dogs room hotly pursued by Merlin. Peggy and Shanti had the sense to fly back over, and Peggy decided the sheep in the next field were a safer option then being Ozzie's dinner.
Mr Kathy managed to retrieve Nora (Merlin just barked at her but didn't try to eat her) and shut her in the toilet while son went hunting amongst the sheep for Peggy.
Hmmm, a fence rethink, it's now gone up to the top of the "things to do" list!

Trim the feathers on one wing Kathy - not too far back but the end pinions - about two inches in, and before the "quills" start to get any bigger (I'm sure there's a how-to somewhere on the internet if you're not sure). That should keep them grounded.

i thought they couldn't fly too. glad they are all ok and hope the scare hasn't stopped them laying today.
now there's a thought that hadn't occurred to me.... maybe we could get some chickens when we move to the country.
note to self - don't get too excited, we need to sell first!

the feathers do grow in again....they should only be done on one side otherwise they can balance and get take off lift
how long ago were they clipped?
could be you need to have a higher fence or that they are jumping over the fence by landing on a fence post or from a nearby tree
