I'd never have guessed that they were related. OH loves cats and we're thinking about getting one, we both like tabbies.

I didn't know that about dalmations or white animals often being deaf. Wonder why that is then?

don't know but i know that it is a problem with white animals and once we considered getting a dalmatian and were told that they had to have hearing tests so they cost X amount of pounds more

thats why Dalmations are not recommended as family pets I think. There is also a connection with blue eyed, white coated cats and deafness.

We have a stray white cat. His father used to come here, for years and years, to be fed, but would never let us touch him. When he died, about 3 months afterwards, I did a double take, as there in the garden was another white cat. This one (Son of White Cat aka Snowy II!) we managed to catch in a live-catch trap and take in to be neutered. He arrives for grub twice a day, and is deaf too. His father wasn't, or had partial hearing.
Love your kits Kathy.

I always understood that all blue-eyed white cats were deaf.
I used to have a white cat - she had yellow eyes and wasn't deaf, just stoopid!
Lovely kitten Kathy - I wish I could have another cat.....
