The wool stash

I've resolved ('cos it's that time of year) noty to buy any more wool until there isn't enough left in the stash to knit a small boy's jumper.

Shocked  Shocked  Shocked

I've decided that when I've finished a thing, if there isn't enough wool left over to make anything useful, I'll knit 4" squares until the wool is finished. That way, the stash should really get used up and I can sew up the squares to make a blanket or three, and maybe give it/them to Oxfam or something.

Are there any other good tips for using up small quantities of left over wool?  I have a couple of books of knitted toy patterns, but I never seem to have the right colours  Rolling Eyes

I'm currently working on some stripey jumpers for small boys, and there's enough sock wool in the stash for at least six pairs, so I'm not going to run out of things to do for a while... Laughing

Muntjac was complaining about the amount of wool that Agapanthus had, until he saw mine.  Laughing
I do like to keep a reasonable supply handy in a variety of colours in case I get asked for something. And then if Twistfibrecraft have some reduced yarn on offer, well I can't really not have it, I know I'll use it eventually, I get through a fair amount knitting and weaving. And they had addi weave/knit needles in the sale to (£15 to £6) in the sale so I'll need wool for them too.

Ok ok I'll TRY not to buy any more until I've only got 1 box left and I'll have a look for ideas to use small amounts up. I was going to do The Knitted Farmyard, even have the book for it but just haven't got round to it yet. Very Happy

stripey scarves and hats from leftover wool (mum givs me hers) are about all i knit!

and i still have a huge stash too.

what's different about sock wool?
Lizzie

The sock wool I usually use, which says it's specifically for socks on the label, is 80% wool and 20% nylon and a pretty fine four ply.

I guess any 4 ply would do, but that combination of wool and man-made fibres seems to be pretty robust  Very Happy

I've got a use for my stash, I've started crocheting a blanket, it's a bit of an odd shape but sort of squarish, once it's washed and stretched out it'll be fine!
