Thunderbox

Having been re reading Seymour's Complete Guide to Self Sufficiency, I'm tempted to build a thunderbox inthe garden to do my bit for reducing water consumption and generating garden compost. CP is appalled at the thought, her legal team are waiting next to the landrover to tow it and me away.....

Anybody have a view?
nanny-now and forever

if she would like to try something similar

we have the ty bach still in use here at the trust.............

i am thinking of having it listed

other than that

i have no problems with it but the council might.....................
Kathy

Just Googling thunderbox, do I really want to know what it is................

there you go lloyd

you just might be the only one in petty slurpings with one in their back garden that's all

no keeping up with the joneses for you eh?
Cabbagepatch

Oh please, don't encourage him, we are already turning into the "Odd Ones of Petty Slurpings".

I can imagine waking up tomorrow with aforementioned flippin' thunderbox outside and a whole petition of militia outisde the garden gate.

Going for a rest in a darkened room now with a damp lettuce leaf over my forehead!

Just as long as it's not a cabbageleaf stuffed down your bra!!!

Nothing will surprise me afer this Christmas!!!!
Haize

I had that book for Christmas this year. The only problem being that I already owned it Rolling Eyes Still, it was a very thoughtful present, I just can't decide whether or not to tell my Uncle! I'm thinking there is no point, as when he visits, there *will* be a copy of it here. Anyway, that's my sister's birthday present sorted - she was asking me about the book the other day Laughing

I'm not sure I'd be brave enough for a "thunderbox". I'd love some system that did environmentally friendly things after the perfectly normal bathroom with flushing toilet Laughing

Lloyd had the book years and years ago, let his mad cousin in the mountains of North Wales borrow it...not been since.

So, new copy provided. It is good but in my opinion (for what its worth), he touches on every subject and if you want to try something you would have to delve deeper elsewhere for more precise information.
Haize

I'd agree with that, but it is always handy to have something with a low level introduction to a variety of things, and if any of them sparks your interest, you can research them further.

I want bees! Evil or Very Mad Wink Laughing
Cabbagepatch

I want a Jersey cow, goats, a dairy, geese, ducks and still awaiting the spinning wheel apparantly on its way from the mountains of Wales.

Actually, peace and quiet would be really nice Laughing

Have to say I'm not a great fan of his at all. I do think it's great that he managed to make a living by telling people that he 'invented' the whole idea. Even better that his fans still tell everyone how great he is. Lack of depth in everything he writes IMHO.
Cabbagepatch

My thoughts exactly, all very lovely but if you really want to do it properly, he has no depth of information to offer.

I think he is more about waving the "we can do this" flag, most encouraging but no depth.

He is a great inspirer though, and motivator for those who otherwise might remain "townies" for ever.

agreed

we have the new copy and the original reprinted

he did inspire us actually

got us thinking about what we could do and spurred us on to get down and do it.
Becki

My Nan had one. I wouldn't want one to be fair Laughing
