Tofu making tips.

I found making the tofu easy but I did get a hands on lesson. I found this place that tells you how, also sells a kit pretty cheaply. http://www.wholisticresearch.com/shop/home/m/Shop/id/426/page/1/

It takes about 1hr 30mns to make a good size batch, well over a kilo and very cheap compared to ready made and far superior.

Okara is what is left after you've squeezed out the soya milk, I made UnChicken Nuggets with it found on this site, everyone gave them the thumbs up! http://ellenskitchen.com/clearlight/okara/okara.html#okaranuggets

I have never eaten tofu! So have no idea what it tastes like, but this looks like its a 'nifty' looking gadget for the making of it!
Do you make your own Soya milk, too,  Kathy?
Kathy

I haven't yet Libby as it's not something we use much of. Mr Kathy has cows milk, and for sauces we use rice milk. Most of us prefer our tea without any milk.

Tofu is very bland on its on but takes on flavours wonderfully. Sliced and fried in tamari/soy sauce, used in stir fries, topping for vegan pizza. We use it in everything. When I make my next batch I'm going to experiment putting some herbs through it, you can buy it like that and it's tasty.  Smile

Thanks Kathy - i'll have a proper look when i'm a bit more awake.

Our favourite tofu is the smoked one. I like it sliced with homemade chutney in sandwiches, Or just add to pasta sauces.

I like tofu but rarely eat it as OH says it's like eating sponge!  I only get to have it when he's eating something meaty...
