Virtual dinner party

In the past we have held virtual dinner parties online where we all agree a menu with veggie options etc, we agree a date and time, and we all then prepare and cook the meal, take lots of photos and so on, then chat and discuss when the hangovers have worn off. Here's a link to the last one we proposed, which never actually came off, although the one before that was a brilliant night!!

Anyone fancy doing it again?

Here's a link to the last proposed one...

Becki

I would love to join in as long as it's not food thats too, um, how can I put this.......

Odd!!!!!!!
Aqui

you can count us in. please can it be on a weekend, otherwise i might not have time to cook it!
lloyd

Very Happy Sure!

This poll is running for a week and after that we can then look at dates and times, if we have a few people interested.
Cabbagepatch

There wasn't a choice for "depends who has to do the cooking" Wink
lloyd

No other takers then?
Kathy

Who's choosing the first menu?
lloyd

Not voting, Kathy? Shocked

Why don't you choose the first menu, after you've voted, that is! Laughing
Kathy

I did vote Lloyd! Theres been 5 votes so far so enough for a dinner party.

I don't think I should choose the menu, I find it easier adapting menus to suit my allergies than the other way around! Nut cutlets anyone.........................
lloyd

Very Happy

Okay so how will we decide the menu?

I can't remember how we decided the last time we did it...How about we nominate a random participant to in turn nominate the menu choosing person? Confused
Aqui

how about one pics the starter, another the mains and kathy and i fight over who picks the veggie option?!
lloyd

So far then it's

Becki
Kathy
CP
Aqui
Lloyd

...and one other who voted but hasn't posted. Very Happy

I'll give it a few more days then we'll get organised....
lloyd

So......Come on out the mystery voter and lets set this meal up!!

Meanwhile, if we look at say a week's time?.......that sound good?....Anyone got dates that are no good?

Menu wise, two starter options, two mains, nothing too poncy or tricky or time consuming. ....Do we want a sweet?....Going to need veggie options as wellof course...
alison

sorry

It is me! Very Happy
Cabbagepatch

OK, first suggestion. How about a naff 70's style menu? At the time this was considered very posh and modern!!!

Prawn cocktail (served in wine glasses)
Lasagne and side salad (lettuce)
Blackforest gateau (Supermarket frozen)
A warmish glass of Liebfraumilch
Don't forget the carefully folded paper napkin.
alison

Guess what we are having today! Lasange Very Happy

Actually I think that is a nice idea, as I know mine will eat all these too!
Kathy

Sounds good to me, I can do a melonish cocktail, veggie lasagne, and I'll think of something gateauish for the sweet!
Aqui

oh gawd - i just realised we're going to my parents next saturday for lunch and we're having lasagne! can it be the following week? or we could join in but have something lighter.

Kathy - what are you doing for pud?
lloyd

Not sure where this Saturday came from, Aqui. What dates can people not do in the next fortnight?....Shall I do another poll with options do you think?

Another eighties favourite was surf n turf. Steak with seafood. (Kathy and Aqui do you eat seafood if so you could just miss out the steak bit?)
lloyd

Ok...anyone...random replies accepted........
lloyd

?.............
Becki

I can't do saturdays now I've started work, this isn't a cop out, as I really wanted to join in.

In the week?
lloyd

In principle, weeknights are good for us, Beckles. Obviously subject to my shifts..
coco331

Any night apart from tuesdays are good for us I think. Looking forward to it, we'll try not to make green pudding this time.

How about a Thursday night, that any good?
Becki

good for me.
lloyd

6, 13 or 20 Dec are good for us.
Kathy

I'm away on the 6th but the other dates are fine, might end up having the dinner and the panto together, that should be fun!  Laughing
Aqui

as long as it's not the 22nd we're fine.

can we start at 7? i have to eat at 7 or i turn into a pumpkin!
Kathy

I found this photo last night from a previous dinner party, the one where Coco and Greenlady made a green pudding. Greenlady is the one in hysterics and the very pale girl with the strange look on her face is the recipient of the afore mentioned pudding:

lloyd

Let's go with 13th then. It gives us a breather before Christmas. Everyone happy with the menu?
Kathy

Good, so dinner on the  13th, panto on the 17th, works meal on the 15th, dog show on the 9th, 5 commissions plus presents to make, never been so busy in December before, oh and I'm of to London this incoming week..........
Aqui

right 13th (that's mine and t's anniversary - it'll be 13 years since we first went out! almost forgot about that!)

where are you going in london kathy?
browneyes

somones going to have to remind me about this dina party and also explain what we have to do.......are we all cooking somthing or can i just sit down and stuff myself? and where is it anyway, when i was on another site i had a party it was great fun but somone fell into my pond,is it formal dress or come as you are.....well not as i am now cos iv just washed my hair....... Rolling Eyes
lloyd

You can find every bit of information you need in the threads, Sweetie! Very Happy
Kathy

Browneyes, we cook the menu (posted earlier in the this thread) then take photos of the food and ourselves enjoying it (or not as the case may be) with a bit of online chat in between. It's informal dress, in other words, wear what you like!  Laughing
browneyes

oh right i see now  Smile
Cabbagepatch

Browneyes, the first dinner party we did, the starter was nettle soup.  I was sent out with a torch in the dark to gather said nettles.

Make a note, the first course this time is prawn cocktail.  Feel sure I have a Brownie "Be prepared" badge in the loft somewhere...
alison

I am all ready for this.  Can't wait.  Haven't had prawn cocktail for ages!
browneyes

well im not prepared because i cant put photos in unless my son inlaw sets my printer up for me i will have to ask him to get his skates on......Browny badge...... Laughing  Laughing  Laughing  Laughing
lloyd

browneyes

alison

I would have expired with hunger by 8.00

We wil lbe dining at about 5.30, - 6.00 as per usual!
Becki

I won't be eating that late either, I used too, but since Mum has been living with us, I have stopped having 2 sittings for tea! The kids need feeding Wink

Ratman

lloyd

I'm doing the speech"

Ratman

lloyd

I'm prepared. Prawns defrosted, seafood sauce made, lettuce and lemon juice good to go, lasagne all set. Ratters will do the speech and I'll do a belly dance, unless Nanny or Browneyes want to? Cool

Cabbagepatch

Aqui, we will  be dining at 8pm as is customary when entertaining.  However I think some are eating earlier.

Doesn't matter, just remember to post some piccies.  I'm hungry but have to give the tiara a quick polish before I can eat...
Ratman

Becki

My camera is full and I don't know how to put it across to the PC. I can say though, we did join in and it was yummy Laughing
lloyd

Nice one.
Ratman

Think I will have the sea bass with sweet chilli sauce

lloyd

That looks great, Ratty!

Here's our starter...
lloyd

Ratters, as its just you and me on here, did you have a starter?
Cabbagepatch

ahem, I've just polished off the prawn cocktail starter, yummy  Very Happy  How was everyone elses???????

should there be some entertainment before the next course?
Aqui

hello

we skipped starter. i'll tekk you about dinner when we get to that point.

cp - i love your dress and lloyd's is pretty nice too!
alison

Right I am here now,

We have had starter and main, but we are a bit full for pudding, and may have it for tomorrow.

(Or I may wait for 1/2 an hour then make a pig of myself!)

Prawn cocktail was yummy.  We had some toms and cue chopped finely into our sauce, but otherwise it looked similar to yours Lloyd, although smaller portions.

Lasagne was served with the customary garlic loaf.
Cabbagepatch

Just about to tuck into the main course now.....
lloyd

No pix then Ali?????
Aqui

it won't let me attach the pic of our main course.

we had mushroom burgers, sweet potato wedges cooked in curry powder and honey and 3 veg.

i definitely won't try to post a pic of j's dinner!
alison

Oops

Didn't think about pics, too busy eating and rushing off to the Christingle at the church.

Aqui

lloyd wrote:

That was the starter  Embarassed
alison

Ratman, it looked delish.

Aqui, yes they do them alot round here, that is the first of 3 we go to!
Ratman

And caught by my own fair hands.

Fresh sea bass, gutted, scaled, head and tailed then cut slashes down each side and coat in sweet chilli sauce. Bake in oven for 25 mins.
Beautiful
lloyd

alison wrote:

How was yours then, Ali?
alison

The prawn cocktail was great.

Proberbly a bit small, but I didn't think I would be able to eat it all otherwise, but then I always wish we had had more.

Children didn't have prawn cocktail though, as they don't like prawns.

lasagne was yummy, and it is one of our favourites.
Our beef and a very tomato y sauce.

The garlic bread I do in the breadmaker, to make the dough, but I add a schwarts garlic and herb into the mix, then bake it on a stone, in the aga, when it has risen, and finally just serve it hot, with a little butter.

It is the garlic bread that has given me indegestion.

I haven't done black forrest gat though, as neither of us are that keen, so I bought a shop pud, but as I said we will have it tomorrow now.
Cabbagepatch

I tried to change my avatar into something suitably 70's and glam.  But it wouldn't let me  Confused
lloyd

Um sorry Ali, the meals finished now and everyone's gone away...........
alison

I was answering your question af about 1/4 hour ago, and you were still signed on.
Kathy

I'm really really sorry folks, I lost my Internet connection this afternoon and am cheesed of trying to sort things. I'm only just back online and because I spent most of the afternoon trying to sort out connection it was a rushed dinner. I even braved Sainsburys to get gluten free lasgne sheets, oh well I'll use them up I'm sure.  Sad

Hope everyone else enjoyed their dinner, any photos?
Becki

No photos, I'm useless.

I did enjoy the prawn cocktail and lasagne, salad and garlic bread, as did everyone else.

Even though there are no photos, at least we joined in Smile
Kathy

Laughing  Laughing Becki, hasn't Mark taught you how to do photos yet! I'm hoping to have the lasagne tonight,  I'll take a photo (although my lasagne does tend to look a bit strange), better late than never.  Rolling Eyes
