Waking up to the local wildlife. literally.I think the wildlife round here is getting too friendly.
After coming back from a friend's house last night at 1am ish, I walked in to the bedroom to find that a paper chain that we always had hanging from the ceiling (to brighten things up) was dangling down to the floor. Odd, as it was pinned well to one of the roof beams (attic bedroom). Sat in bed, reading, when I hear something move behind my head.
Bed is up against a wall that has a low door into a cupboard in the eaves, so I assume the squirrel has returned to the cupboard and I'll have to evict it in the morning.
This morning, the noise starts again, and I bang the cupboard to scare it out. It's only when I hear paper rustling, and there's no paper in the cupboard, that I look over the edge of the bed, still bleary-eyed, to be greeted with two small eyes and the beak of a starling that had been sleeping next to me all night! Cue panicking bird and startled me and other half, all circulating the room at speed. After letting it out through the window, I finally work out it had entered via the eaves opposite the bed, found its way through a cupboard full of junk behind the wardrobe, then flown through the wardrobe itself through a small gap in the doors. It had obviously had fun with the paper chain for a while before hiding on our return.
Sorry for the essay, but I thought you might appreciate that!
I'm off to nail up the hole now...

A bit too jumpy to live with, most wildlife. Sounds like it was quite a maze it navigated to get to you though!
We have some ex wildlife in our attic that I am going to have to move at some point. Really not looking forward to it...

Ex wildlife aren't fun. This is true.
Hole is now blocked, much to the amusement of the neighbour I borrowed the ladder from!

It can be scary, when we where decorating I had left my daughters window wide open to get rid of the pongs, switched on the light and set a bat off flying round and round the room, I was really surprised cos I thought they where only small but the wing span is huge!!!!
My friend has a bungalow about 500yds away and they roost in her roof, she is having fun with all the bat poo, trying to clear it and put something down to protect the ceilings without frightning them off, she and her husband are well into protecting wildlife so knowing them they will let the ceiling cave in rather than disturb the bats

I wonder how big an entry point bats need? I wonder what the chances of them taking up residence in our attic is.

Lovely tales. I really enjoyed those.
My son, in Japan last week, showed me via webcam what he had found in his bedroom - a lizard - a gecko - it was the second one that week.

Ooo I hate them Lottie, when we visited hubbys sister in Cape Town they ran all over the room, hung around the door and even dropped into my hair as I was going out one day. The family thought it was great seeing me screeching around trying to get it off
