Morning all  Very Happy

Well, the vet said he had a very frustrating day with our Penny yesterday - he couldn't see anything particularly wrong on the first endoscopic examination, so he tried again (and again  Rolling Eyes ) and eventually discovered ulceration on her soft palate, which apparently is THE most difficult part of a dog to get to.  He doesn't know what's caused it - it could be bacterial, viral or even a tumour, but he can't get to it to take a biopsy.  He HAS taken a biopsy of a gland in her neck which was inflamed, to see if that gives him any more clues.

So she's home, she has some more antibiotics and she's more cheerful and seems to be marginally more keen on eating, so I think she's feeling better than she was, which is good.

And we're four hundred quid poorer  Shocked  Shocked

On the plus side, it's a lovely morning and we had a really nice walk along the edge of the wood at dawn, complete with spooky owl calls from the depths of the trees  Very Happy

Have a great day everyone  Very Happy

Poor Penny, and poor you, what a huge bill. Our new vets has a scheme where you can pay money regularly to them, it's always your money (not like insurance) and you can get it back whenever you want. They get the interest I know, but for someone like me who is useless at saving it works well. If you have a  bill that comes to more than your account then because you've been saving regularly they will let you pay it up by the same scheme, if you know what I mean.

Beautiful day here so I'm going outside, loads of cleaning done yesterday so I've had enough of that!

Have a good day everyone, enjoy your day out Libby!

Its a bit drizzly here today so didn't get a metre plot dug over today so feel a bit let down but hopefully I'll get one done tonight after school at gardening club whilst the children plant some cabbages. We did have a meeting though this morning to work out just what we have achieved and still need to do so heading in the right direction. We do have a slight too many cooks syndrome tho but I am able to back off and let the ones who shout louder than me get on with it and then when they don't actually get it done I carry on plodding on.

The girls are obviously missing their Dad but they are both being very helpful with the animals etc. and we did quite a bit of cooking last night so they are ok they have chocolate muffins in their packed lunches and they can go into school saying they made their own wholemeal rolls and burgers last night....

We are going to look round the local college tonight for eldest's transfer next year seems silly for a 11 year old to go to college but I suppose it makes her feel more grown up.

Have a good day all.
nanny-now and forever

wow lizzie, i sympathise....a whole lot of money and not even a clear diagnosis for it either.....years ago we had the same with lucy, she had an overnight in the vets with a drip and all kinds of stuff and then recovered on her own...took us ages to recover from the bill...

so not such a nice day weather wise, grey and greyer with a chilly wind up here then about 5 it came out all lovely and the evening was superb...i went outside about half an hour ago and just looked at the sunset over the valley, sometimes i have to remember why we came here....

first thing this morning i came downstairs to find a dead rabbit in the cat food dish...a big rabbit as well but missing a head and one leg....the cat that caught that one and got it through the cat flap did well for itself....of course there were several piles of sick around as well just to make my morning complete..

interesting day though as archie the horse here for fat camp was shod....he normally is but the shoes were taken off for a while when the loanee hadn't time to ride much....mr nanny was sort of in charge of the animal while a farrier did the job.....not the one who normally shoes him...there were a whole lot of "that's not the way to do it" vibes going on, mr nanny had kept the animal  trimmed which the farrier wasn't happy with and of course mr nanny thought the farrier wasn't of the best...for some reason the farrier decided to put rear shoes on the front as well and that isn't what you should do nor should you do this and that and all sorts of things....

i stayed right out of the way....best sometimes....

other than that i spent most of the day sorting out the stuff for the group to take to the dog's day out at pembrey country park on sunday.  we are weekend off and someone has volunteered to do it instead of mr nanny losing yet another day off like today should have been....
Kathy

Your girls sound great TGM, not many kids today could go into school having made their own rolls and burgers. Sounds like the garden is going well too.  Very Happy

Thanks Kathy....

My nephew is a farrier Nanny and the first thing he does when he sees a horse is look at his feet and tells you who has shod it.

Pet insurance!!! I have recently had to move mine as I refused to pay £58 per month  Shocked  bearing in mind the two older cats are nearly 12 I found one with Halifax and it cost £7 for Tango £6 for Sassy and £4 for Jake thats a month by the way!! a dam sight better than Tesco's £58 per month each for S & T and J's was £8!
Lizzie

I know...Penny used to be insured but the premiums were just getting silly....
