well guys, i have been and done it......lol...

spent last week learning to weld.......i have been thinking about it for a while now, OH does not have the time to learn, so it was me who had to.... Wink

we have so many things here, trailers, horse lorry, gates etc that need fixing or repairing from time to time, and taking it to a garage can be expensive, so i took the bull by the horns and went for it.

there is a lady on another foum i belong to, who runs a small B+B in cornwall, which is also a small holding. both her and her husband run courses. she does poultry and smallholding, he does welding and smithying courses.

so i went to cornwall on tuesday and came back thursday. i now have the basics of welding, and i can weld without it going blobby and looking like a bird has carped on it......lol...

i am now buying my own welder so i can practise and practise, to get it perfected.
the first thing i am going to ' fix ' is the small trailer we tow behind the quad.
i might ( if i feel brave enough..lol ) post some piccis of my work......ha ha.

Be careful, waking up in the night with arc eye is not nice,and very painful!
I was taught to weld and braze with oxy-acetylene (half a century ago), but could never master mig! Embarassed

ha ha aggy.........that is waiting for bonfire night........will keep burning all night long too.....fofl.

old lob........i had a go at mig welding, but much too fierce for me, and the set up costs thousands......so i am going to buy an arc welder for the workshop/shed and a smaller inverter for out in the fields to use with the generater.

this is my attitude too......

but i have always believed that we are all here for a reason, and we are given chances in this life. when the chance to do something comes along, then we should take it.
we never stop learning, and we should never stop trying new things. somethings we try we cannot do, somethings we take to as if it was meant to be, we have a natural talent for it, but unless we try, how do we know?

there seems no point in standing still, and watching your life drift away, because before you know it, time has passed sooo darn quick and it is too late.

i am not saying you should not be satisfied with what you have, far from it, but there is always time and energy to learn something new or to try something new.

this course took 3 days out of my life, ( not long in the grand scheme of things ) and it is going to last me a lifetime now. I only learned the basics of welding, but i can go on from there.

i am now ready to have a go at something else that will come into my life....... Wink

I think this is wonderful.

I did a brick work course years ago which I thoroughly enjoyed and have used it round the garden, but haven't tackled anything big, as I don't really need too! Very Happy

wow thats brilliant libby.

there are lots of little jobs around the place, especially in the garden, that do need a little knowledge to be able to get it to look good.
