what's your favourite soap recipe?Mine is Honey blossom from the Coss book. Although I leave out the essential oils and put in honey and oatmeal instead. It's lovely and rich, is quick to trace and fairly hard so it doesn't all vanish after one bath!
What's yours?

I love that one too - you just can't beat honey and beeswax, it is heavenly and so gentle.
The castille one is lovely to - although I made it with yellow palm oil as I couldn't get white - it is just as nice.
Actually I have not come across one recipe out of the MC book that I do not like yet.
You can't beat making your own. I would never dream of buying a bar of soap now - or shower gels, or handwash bottles.
Gone full circle in the soap department. Years ago we only ever had soap - then all the 'fancy' things were introduced
All that plastic packaging - makes me cringe now.

I'd like to try making honey and beeswax soap, though my worry is that it will smell far too edible!
It does sound like it would be wonderful.

Dont worry about that - it doesn't smell too edible - so no risk to children

the honey and beeswax soap is lovely I liked the sunflower and calendula one too, it's pretty with the little slithers of dried calendula petals.

I found my last batch of honey and oatmeal soap did look good enough to eat - it had swirls of honey through it and looked rather like nougat. It also smelled slightly of honey, which I've never had before with honey soaps (I nearly always make honey soap - especially as I can't use any essential oils right now). But the beeswax element stops you from wanted to eat it.
Leonie - I must try that sunflower and calendula one next time. I had a good look at it when I was picking out a recipe at the weekend, but we didn't have any sunflower oil. I've ordered some now. And calendula's soothing and healing, so it'll be good for baby!

Ok, I must be odd... My lump of beeswax smells and looks like I could just bite a huge chunk out of it...
Fortunately, I do have some sense

Absolutely not Haize - I have mine in here in my study and it does look and smell fantastic - like a summers day - but when the quantity that you put in the soap and the other components especially the lye - do reduce the 'wanting to eat it' and of course it tastes yuk

OK - I must be getting the wrong type of beeswax - mine is comes pelletted from the soap kitchen and smells rather like earwax. I really hope yours doesn't smell similar!

Mine (which came from Lottie anyway) smells mostly like honey.
Where on earth do you buy lye anyway?!

look at a plumbing merchant Haize, but make sure it's caustic soda and not drain cleaner (drain cleaner has other nasties added to it).
beeswax...you can get the white pellets from soap kitchen, don't have much scent. or buy in blocks which is a yellow colour and has a lovely fragrance. I have both types and use either one depending on the recipe.
