Is a dishwasher (run only when full) more or less environmentally friendly than washing up once a day by hand? _________________ Aqui, T and Baby Jack!

a dish washr uses about 12 - 15 litres of water per cycle, it takes the same energy to heat the water but will use a bit more for the pumps and motors, the thing with dish washers is that they can hold 4 or 5 bowls worth of washing up, so if only used when full they say it is more economical and enviromentally friendly.
not sure myself _________________ Never trust a skinny chef

I have a dishwasher which is a AAA energy thingy, I use the economy wash which takes 2 hours (how that is economy I will never know) it is only set off when full and I never put pans or casserole dishes in it, so they get done by hand
I don't mind washing up by hand in fact I quite like it, especially when the Rayburn is lit as we have lashings of hot water. Its my other half who hates it and he does insist on putting pans in the dishwasher which I have to re-wash when its finished
So not very energy efficient here _________________ "If we reduce the amount of stuff we allow to accumulate in our lives, we won't have to organise it"

I have a dish washer but don't use it much,I find it comes in handy when the family are around, but when there is only two of you it's quicker to wash up, however my children who have familys use them all the time and I think when used fully loaded they are very good, plus I saw a program which said it is more environmentally friendy because the new machines don't use as much water as they used too and very little detergent.
