After yesterday's post about the Tooth Fairy when we started talking about penny sweeties, it made me stop and think about the pocket money I received as a child and what I spent it on.

Compared to the pocket money todays' children receive and how they spend it.

I used to buy sweets from the local newsagents shop, and if I had managed to save a bit, I would buy a box of sugarlumps to take to the horses.

Anyone else?

I remember my first pocket money was a single big and shiny Ha'penny. Every two weeks I could afford to go to the sweet shop.

Anything worked hard for is so much appreciated.
The old saying "easy come easy go" is so very true IMHO.

all my pocket money was spent on my horses, either extra feed supplements, tack, competition entries, riding clothing etc.

My brother, sister and I used to get a shiny threepenny bit (showing my age here) on the walk home from school - I can't remember whether it was once a week or every day. We had to decide whether to spend it on comics or sweets. I can't ever remember having to do chores - my kids do - even now when I go to work in the morning there is a list left on the kitchen table for who has to do what. I just used to put a list of jobs but they never got done because they all blamed someone else - now the list has names Very Happy
