I will probably think of another one later but I really liked The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan

Beadgarden - I'm rather intrigued by that as my sister was after a copy. It does sound interesting - might have to read it myself!

yes it is nanny. It is the diary she kept before, during and after the 1st world war and which she used to write Testament of Youth.

A fascinating woman.

Hi Aqui,

The Joy Luck Club is good, I saw the film first and loved it and then read the book which is very slightly different as it has a more detailed storyline.

Amy Tan also wrote a book called The Kitchen God's Wife, which I tried to read and gave up after about 3 chapters, then I picked it up again a few months later and read it all and loved it.

Its not a good idea to read her books if you are at all depressed as they are a bit sad at times. They are mostly based on mother and daughter relationships and about women who moved from China to America.
