My husbands sister lives in Cape Town! We have been out quite a few times.
To test out a new machine, I would make something simple like an apron. That way you get to know the basics. _________________ "If we reduce the amount of stuff we allow to accumulate in our lives, we won't have to organise it"

May I recommend that if you have not been on a machine for a while, to buy some gingham fabric, because it is easy to follow the lines for cutting out and then sewing the seams.
There are a couple of free apron patterns on the 'net and then how about a shopping bag, again quite simple and loads of patterns on the web.
Just get stuck in and it will all come together as it clicks into place.
