I believe it's a red potentilla cinquefoil.

Top of the class Aggie! It does look like a geum Aqui, I googled it and thought that was it till Aggie came along!

My new book tells me the first one is dead nettle, there are many different types, well done Aqui!  Smile Still not sure about the tree though, can anyone tell from the new photo?

I think your tree could be 'euonymus myrianthus' I had a look through my encyclopedia, google it and see if it matches and if not I will look again!
