So as you may know I stopped eating all dairy products last December as J was allergic. About a month ago I started giving him a little bit of dairy to see if he's outgrown he allergy. It seems he has.

For the past week or so I've reintroduced dairy into my diet. Since then I've been having digestive problems (won't go into detail!) I've been googling and they are identical to the symptons of lactose intolerance.

Could my body have lost the ability to digest lactose in 9/10 months? I had no problems with eating dairy before.

I've had a word with Greenlady Aqui and she has made 2 suggestions. The first one is that perhaps you've always had a bit of intolerance but hadn't noticed, just put it down to indigestion/wind etc, and that coming away then going back to it has made you more aware of it, if you know what I mean.
The other one is that your body goes through HUGE changes with pregnancy and childbirth, and now struggles with processing lactose.

We genuinely don't miss dairy products, Coco (on Maggie) has been vegan for years, she is the most robust of us all as you can see! Would it create many problems for you as a family not being able to tolerate dairy?

Thanks Kathy. It is true I might not have noticed. My sister is lactose intolerant and my dad has nightmares if he eats cheese (i'm not sure if it's related). I did read that Southern Europeans are more prone to it and that's where dad is from.

It certainly wouldn't cause any problems - as I said I've been dairy-free for about 10 months anyway. I had been enjoying eating cheese again, if nothing else for some variety. But then I've already put on some weight. I don't think I could be vegan yet - I'd miss eggs too much!

I've spoken to my sister too and she's advised stopping eating it for a couple of weeks and then trying again, but slower.

So we might end up being a family with a lacto-ovo vegetarian (T), an ovo-vegetarian (me) and a lacto-vegetarian (J) - I've not dared try him with eggs yet.

Sounds a bit like my family Aqui! I do have egg occasionally if they are from my own hens but can only eat a small amount anyway. I've never liked milk and stopped eating cheese about 7mths ago, noticed a difference in my waistbands within a week, it is VERY fattening isn't it  Laughing
