Erm, Mr Kathy went and picked up an item tonight courtesy of freecycle. I really don't how to say this, I think it's some kind of affliction. Anyway, its a Singer Industrial dating from 1931 model no 188KI. It has feet and bits and bobs but no manual. It has a treadle and motor action . There was a bit broken that the lady apologised for, she doesn't know how it happened, but BIL has taken it to weld and we know where it fits back on.

N, can you tell me any more about this model, where to get a manual? It's your fault anyway, led me astray you did.

I had use of a treadle Singer sewing machine when I was 13 and it folded down. It was old then. I remember it well as I sewed my index finger when I first used it. It took a bit of time to control the treadle bit!

Wish sewing machines looked as beautiful today

This is an 18-2
The KI probably stands for Kilbowie which is the Clydeside factory where Singer's were built.
My featherweights are a 221K and a 222K.
I will do some more looking for you.

It is the second one N. I think the table has been recovered with formica at some point but the cast iron treadle is still attached and the belt is there for it. It is a singer motor and the bit that broke off is to drive the gear (so BIL says). You can switch it and push the thing in with your hand and it works, if you know what I mean! I will take some pics later on. Thanks for the links.

I've found a free manual at http://www.singermachines.co.uk, and they also have the leather drive belts which I will probably replace at some point. Just waiting for BIL to try and weld the cast iron bit together, if he can't do it I'll get a blacksmith to fix it. Going to give it a clean now.
