I just LOVE beads!!! I think I have ever since I was little and mum used to let me rummage through her enormous collection of beads if I was ill. I've been doing mobile phone charms and bead bookmarks recently and am desperate for more simple ideas for pretty gifts, so if anyone has any ideas I'd love to hear them.

I have only made one thing with beads, and that was edge the chiffon (sp) shawl I wore to our wedding.

I was shown how to do it by an RN I used to work with, as they say, "Its easy when you know how"

Take care

Gill

Ooooh that sounds beautiful. Any chance of a brief explanation? Or is it long and complicated?!

I've made some beaded bookmarks, gave them away as christmas presents and didn't take pictures first. I'll be making some more (my bead order arrived this morning) so will remember to take pics first before I give them away. I have to hide the beads from S and J, it's like a treasure chest to them

ooh - beads. That's another thing I could try my hand at. You guys are a bad influence on me - Mr Aqui's never going to see me.

Maybe it could be a winter project. Gives me time to find a cheap source.

This talk of looking through bead boxes when ill as a kid reminds me - we didn't have beads, we had buttons. I wonder where they all are now.

we have a button box too, kids love it and not surprisingly there aren't that many buttons left in the box, I bet they're all hidden down behind the sofa and heaven knows where else

Earrings. We have a house full of the damn things. I hate beads and with a summer fayre coming up I guess I'm going to hate them more soon.

Check with Er, but I'll sew you up a peg bag to night if it'll stop you moaning about not having one.

Do you want a hanging one or a wearing one?

I quite like beads and made a nice necklace with my Aunty's stuff, though I sometimes get bored and run off to play with horses, etc. I love crafty things but seem to be more of an outside hands on sort of person! My niece loves beading and is always making things. I've got a bead ornament hanging on my wall that she made for christmas

I was really really bad today - I bought a few hand-made glass beads from Africa. They are GORGEOUS! I have no idea how I'm going to use them though!!!

Those beads on the right are lovely plocket (I've got some of the ones on the left they're really pretty). I want to make a new keyring ornament for my car keys, one of your mobile phone charms would do well....oooooh so many ideas!

I've just had another thought, I could make a pretty light pull cord handle thingy (what are they called?) with beads, colour coordinated with the bathroom, I'd have to use quite chunky beads

They are lovely Plocket.

I'll borrow my sister's books and see if there are any more nice ideas in there.

My spring swap bracelet had very pretty beads and silver stars in it and on the advice of n i've been directed to a very cool shop in Edinburgh where I can buy the starting materials, including knitted metal. So when I move back to Scotland, that shop will be my first stop! (Its called Helios Fountain in case anyone is interested )
