As you may know I live 6 miles from the nearest allotment/town and I have been debating for some time as to whether to write to my parish council to ask about the possiblility of getting some allotments locally.
I know people presume we have big gardens because we live in the country but we don't and with the cost of veggies ever increasing I think this is the only option as my garden veg plot just does not cope!
What do peeps think? Is this the way forward? _________________ My Blog: http://woodlandsworld.blogspot.com/ |

I don't see why not Libby - they can only say no and then you're no worse off.
We're lucky in that we have a vegetable garden made of part of the farmyard, so it's right next to the house, but I dare say if we lived elsewhere then an allotment would be what we'd do, for the sake of our health as well as our wallet! _________________ http://www.pennycottage.co.uk
You can't have everything - where would you put it? |

I think I read somewhere that there are schemes in place to help groups find a way to get allotments locally. Have you seen any land that you think might be suitable, always better to have that kind of info at hand when you approach them. Good luck and let us know how you get on. |

My understanding is that if enough people write to their local council asking for an allotment, the council is obliged to provide them.
I'm not sure how realistic this is if there isn't any available/suitable land though. |

There is I believe a plot of land right up in the village but I think it may have been earmarked for development. I think I may write a letter anyway and see what happens! _________________ My Blog: http://woodlandsworld.blogspot.com/ |
