Can anyone (or their OHs) help out with electrics. We've acquired a commercial dough mixer and it had a normal household plug on it which we had to cut to get the wire out of the protective housing. When we got home we noticed there were 4 wires on the plug, not the normal 3.
On the side it says 230 volts, 1/2 horsepower, Amp 4, pole 4.
Can a normal plug be put on this, if so where does the extra wire go. Here are photos, any help appreciated!

OH says you need to find out where the other end of that white cable goes (where the plug was chopped off).  He also says the clear plastic box with the red wires coming out of it is a relay that should really be in it's own housing, but that's by the by...

He suspects that the wiring's been bodged a bit, in which case there's a good chance that the other end of the white cable will have the black wire just cut off.  If this is the case, a normal plug can be used and disregard the black wire, but he says he wouldn't recommend that without making sure the black isn't connected to anything at the other end....he says it looks like whoever put the plug cable on might have just used a bit of cable they had lying around.

I'd love to volunteer to bring him to visit and sort it out for you but I'm too scared that we'd come away with a couple of extra dogs in tow  Laughing  Laughing

That's not much help really is it!  Sorry...

It was actually a great help Jellycat, thankyou!
He did see it plugged in and working, just took it to pieces to clean it. He stuck a plug on it and crossed his fingers but it's working fine!  Very Happy
