This is the absolute basics, just to give you an idea!
Everything is weighed, even liquids when making soap as it has to be accurate.
1. weigh out your oils and place in saucepan (enamel or stainless steel). Heat until all solid fats have melted.
2. Weigh out the water (distilled or mineral). Place in heatproof jug or bowl. Put in sink.
3. wearing eye protection and rubber gloves, weigh out the sodium hydroxide. Add to water gradually in well ventilated area (the fumes are toxic) and stir well. Put in sugar thermometer. It'll probably go up to 180-200F.
4. When both liquids have dropped to the same temperature (as stated in the recipe) gradually add sodium hydroxide solution to oil and stir well.
5. Stir occassionally until soap has traced (this is when you can drizzle the soap mixture and the pattern will stay on the surface before sinking back down into the rest of the soap) Add essential oils, dried flowers, oatmeal, etc at this point and stir well before pouring into the mould.
6. the soap should be left covered for at least 4 weeks before us. You can cut the soap after 24 hours or 1 week (whenever it's hard), but I usually cut it when it's ready to use.
