--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There was a programme last week on tv (I think it was a money programme special) looking at a family and their power use.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/5017196.stm
Their challenge was to use 3.5 litres of heating oil instead of their current 5 litres, 10kWh electricity instead of 26 and drive no more than 30 miles instead of 55.
I thought this last was difficult because they were a rural family, not town living.
You can watch the programme online until 9th June.
We are trying this at home.
So far...
electricity between 5 and 12.5 kWh per day... more when OH is working from home as he needs the pc and modem on.
gas 2 thingies! We have gas heating, only on for an hour a day for water at the moment, but the Aga is gas and we can't turn that off as it's our only cooking source. It does heat he whole living area in the winter though so we probably score then.
mileage... don't know. Under 30 if OH works from home, about a hundred if he goes to Glasgow.
The electricity is the challenge.
Anyone up for this?
10kWh/day, four people, 4 bedroom house.

Have you read your meters yet?
We are using about 14kWh a day which is disappointing to say the least. I think it's in part due to the pc and router which are on all day when OH works from home.... so we don't use any fuel on those days.
Must try harder.
